COACHING

PennDel Coaching partners forward-looking leaders with experienced coaches for the purpose of maximizing the leader’s potential and advancing the mission of the church.

The power of coaching is a learning relationship designed to produce new actions and outcomes. A coach is a trusted partner who is skilled at helping a person gain greater self-awareness, become more decisive, and move farther faster. One church planter said, “I know this — I’ve planted a church without a coach and I’ve planted a church with a coach. All I can tell you is that I’ll never plant a church without a coach again.”

In addition to connecting leaders with coaches, PennDel Coaching Network fosters coach training and promotes coaching as a best practice for emerging and experienced ministry leaders and their teams. If you are interested in having a coach, contact Bill Ellis (w.j.ellis@me.com) for a consultation or compete the Application Form.

Coaching and Why I Need One

Who is coaching for?

the exhausted lead pastor

the fearless church planter

the multi-tasking solo pastor

the strategic executive leader

the anxious new leader

the retiring/resigning senior leader

the visionary church revitalizer

the conflict-laden team leader

the stuck-in-the-past leader

the too-far-ahead leader

Coaching helps me…

to maximize my potential

to make better decisions

to act with clarity and confidence

to leverage my strengths

to reduce my blind spots

to gain momentum

to provoke creativity

to work on myself

to turn obstacles into opportunities

to love my life and my calling

“A good coach always coaches to a leader’s potential, not his current level of performance. A good leadership coach will see the potential in you and inspire you accordingly.” Andy Stanley

Coaching Application
Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a typical coaching relationship?
Coaching relationships are built over time. A three month initial agreement is typical.

Do we have to meet in person?
No. It is common for coaching to take place in a focused distraction-free phone conversation.

Do coaches have to be certified or licensed?

Currently there is no licensure requirement for coaches so anyone can call themselves a coach.  PennDel Ministry holds high standards for our ministers as well as for our coaches.  All certified PennDel coaches receive training aligned with the standards set forth by the International Coach Federation, the world’s largest organization of professionally trained coaches. Because our coach training is aligned with ICF, you can be certain the coach has been trained in specific core competencies, ethics, and coaching skills. Many of our PennDel Coaches have obtained additional training to become ICF credentialed coaches as demonstrated in their bios.

How can coaching help my church?
Coaching can help your church by helping you maximize your professional leadership capacity, and helps you manage your personal life and ministry responsibilities. Coaching skills you will learn can also help you coach others who serve with you in ministry.

Myths About Coaching

  • It’s for the weak or struggling.
  • It’s like Counseling- counseling looks back, coaching looks forward
  • It’s like Consulting – consultants provide answers, coaches ask questions
  • It’s like Mentoring– “Mentoring is imparting to you what God has given me; coaching is drawing out of you what God has put in you.” – Dale Stoll
